Look at this Earth of ours: how much it all has changed
We like to think we're okay but reality demands
We look a little deeper and try to understand
That our dear old Earth is sighing because of our demands.
Instead of using up the stuff that we already have on hand
The need for new and exciting greatly does expand
We need to care for our dear country: we need to recycle and to clean
What we have already taken to restore the balance here!
The Earth has only so much to give: we must help her heal and breathe
If we really want to continue here to live!
Our factories pollute her air and waters: our mines they dig too deep
We scar our Earth's dear surface and seek to take her jewels
What on earth is man thinking to not give back at all!
Think you that she is happy? Think you that she is in good cheer?
If man continues taking what will happen next year?
Volcanoes are erupting: Tsunamis in their wake
The Earth in tremors quaking to her dying sounds!
Shouldn't we be waking? Should we not look around and sigh?
The snows and avalanches! Mudslides and sink holes!
Hurricanes and cyclones abound! The Arctic and Antarctic melting!
Adding to our woes!
Lord help us help our Earth before it is too late!

The ebb and flow of life (26th January 2011)
Drought has been the spectre in recent bygone years
Now as the earth is turning: a different world appears.
After all the dry dusty seasons the clouds are everywhere
The rain that falls is tumbling like great avalanches of snow
We blame it on La Nina but should we not all be called?
To face these drastic changes as mankind has made his bed
How come it's all now evident but never this bad before?
In all our lifetimes dreaming the marks we've made are clear
Look at all those rain clouds! Look at all the squalls!
I know I prayed for the Murray to be in volume thus restored
Lord I never meant this deluge; such destruction to be caused!
We can't escape the knowledge that we have all added too!
Surely we must understand we've contributed to Earth's load
By changing and destroying in the name of progress' road!

Thank you Dorothea
Thank you Dorothea; thank you Judith Wright
For showing me the power of the words you write
For all those English Lessons; for all those times when bored
When I sat so still and listened to those words of yours
Though I was made in another country
Though my blood comes form overseas
I want to tell you both how much I appreciate all those hours
When teachers read and reread your soulful poetry
All those times when I never thought I'd ever see my words in print
I thank you wholehearted for opening up my eyes
For showing me the wonder when inspiration strikes
As now I sit and ponder about these times of ours
I realize how magical to be showered with your praise
As I look up above me and see the Southern Cross
As I see the stars shining brightly: sometimes I'm at a loss
How great the imagination: how powerful the dreams
Of those hardest working forebears: the men who came to be
The New Australian Cockies: who dreamed their dreams awake!
They left all family behind to make it to our shores
They coped with transportation: they coped with wind; sandstorms
All because they had a dream of these far distant shores!
For showing me the power of the words you write

Tears like rain (Rocky Page)
Tears like rain, laughter and pain
How do these go together? I'll explain!
When Rocky Page was entertaining
Fundraising for the High School
I'd gone along to see him and enjoy the fun
It was at Glossop so many years ago and
I'd missed my dear friend so I'd gone to see her as well.
The show was just starting and volunteers were called
So up I went to see if I could share in the fun that was planned!
A whole row of chairs there for us to all sit down in neat little pairs
Rocky was hypnotizing: lots of fun to be had there!
Now; me being stubborn and not easily led:
I listened and tried to be good but those words as they drifted
Around in my head: I couldn't do those things he suggested
I was too young and too embarrassed
To kiss the guy next to me; let that be understood!
So I just sat there and pretended to be asleep
Un-hearing of the words he said to me!
After that little bit he let us go back to our seats
I was right up the back on top of a chair
As the next bits of action were beginning to stir!
I was watching another lots of peeps
Getting their trances and singing out loud
One was a chicken; a rooster no doubt!
He clucked and preened to the hypnotist's words
Then stopped as suddenly as he's started before!
One sung like Elvis and ground his hips around
The rest I don't recall; but fun it really was!
Then as I was laughing so hard at the fun
Those tears started to flow: they poured like rain
I was laughing so much! that it was hurting to breathe
But the weirdest part was that the tears wouldn't leave
So there I was all tuckered out from laughing and crying
As I turned to look around to see
If any had noticed this weird little bout
Nobody was looking at me at all: was relieved to take note
As I was so embarrassed to be seen in that weird unfathomable state!
Well, thank you dear Rocky: you've been gone for a while
I hope you'll be pleased that you're remembered still
I remember some of your jokes you told that night
I laughed until I cried and I'd never done that before
So that was really wild! Emotions are amazing things and
For that night my heart really did take wing!
How do these go together? I'll explain!

Sunshine and flowers
Like the sun that shines on through
The broken clouds of life
I see your loving hand
In every little thing I touch!
I see your stamp upon
Every flower that grows around
Every little coloured part is made
By your design and created just so!
Your perfection is made clear
In all that you hold dear
In all that flows from your almighty power!
Like every little breeze
And every little shower
Every ray of light
That touches every flower!
All these things and more
Are made by your great power
How I am amazed every single day
When I look upon
A simple, beautiful, little flower!
The broken clouds of life
I see your loving hand
In every little thing I touch!
I see your stamp upon
Every flower that grows around

Some words to call your own
Been listening to Bread: enjoying their beautiful words and music
Listening to the words they'd written so many long years ago and
How it's still the same for you and me as we travel and we feel the need
To hear those words and music that sets us free to be what ever we are
For ourselves we need to find those words
That make sense within our heart and being and
When we do hear those words: we may be taken to a far off place
Of dreams and happiness we find it easier to simply Be!
Easier to cope because we feel joined to someone else
Who feels exactly the same as we do!
Even if it's just for the few moments as we sing along and feel akin
To one other human being in this whole great universe!
How simple and unexpected to be able to connect to someone else
On such a basic level! To be as one; the same, without; within!
Yet to be across the other side of this earth or no matter where you are?
Just to know that someone understands your heart and soul and all that you are!
Listening to the words they'd written so many long years ago and

Sixteen years to fifty four
At sixteen years I was so young: though my mind at war
My body it decided it was ready this world to explore!
Unready and ill prepared to face that hormonal tide
I wanted to experience the world's roller coaster ride!
So into gear I threw myself : without a care or thought and
Found myself near drowning: so far away from port!
Lord I'm sorry for testing you: now I have so many thanks
To give unto you from then!
As I look back through my life I realize at last
That you were ever with me then: though I recognized it not!
How your dear angels kept me safe along that stupid path
I'd set myself to travel down: without a sturdy rope!
Thank God you saw it all and helped me thus to cope!
My naivete knew no bounds: my brain was not aware
Of how I could entangle myself in every wily snare!
That was laid out for me: to step into and then
To catch me unawares until I finally reached my senses and
Locked behind those fences that were there to protect me still!
My stupidity knew no bounds: my mind assumed I knew
All there was to to know! How stupid of me still
To think myself so world renowned: I utterly despair!
Of how you might have looked at me and shook your head and smiled
"What trouble my sweet child is in and yet she knows it not!"
Lord I have to thank you heaps because you sent your angels dear
To keep a wary eye on me as I failed those traps to see!
Entered in that lion's den; How often you saved my life
Not realizing then that you were ever near to me
Even when I knew you not as such but even then my saviour sweet
You were then and are mine still!
I thank you Lord for keeping me safe
So I could finally meet you in my mind and soul and
Find that eternal life was my ultimate goal!
Oh dear Lord I shudder to think of all those stupid things
I did before I had that inkling to let you into my life and allow my saviour to be!
My sordid life in equating sex with love?
My sacrifice to anyone who wanted me for that one thing only?
How could I understand your love? No lessons given me!
How could I really have seen? How off the track I found myself
Without the faintest glimpse or knowledge of my course
How lost, alone and scared: I now do see how much you mourned for me!
But though you gave your life for mine: it is only now I see
How much I hurt your loving heart: in allowing myself yo be
That stupid little lonesome tart: off seeking on the completely wrong path!
Now as I've cried and cried because of the pain that I caused Thee
My heart is ready to understand exactly how much you grieved for me!
My sins were so many: I'm sorry Lord to say
I'm sorry I hurt you so: the tears and blood you shed for me
So unworthy still I feel! and never will I forgive myself
For those precious tears you shed for me: that precious blood
That flowed because of one unworthy life!
Your life before me goes: I long to thank you personally
I long to be at your side to ever and eternally
Serve you my dearest Lord: for taking upon your dear sweet brow
That worry for my soul!
My body it decided it was ready this world to explore!
Unready and ill prepared to face that hormonal tide
I wanted to experience the world's roller coaster ride!
