The black hills

I looked upon our blackened hills
Felt the sadness: took its fill
The fires of summer burnt so brightly
Taking everything within its path
Now life returns to those hills above me
All is covered with a greenness
Every living thing is God-given
Every growing thing will return
Just watch and wait; you will see them
Growing back a little stronger
Growing back just as God intended
When He designed and made us all!

"The Black Hills are the house of gold.
We watch it to get rich!"

Little Bear

Though there is no "gold" in these hills
To me they are just as precious
For I love to watch them breathing
To me they are a sight to behold!
I feel the richness of God's bounty
I see their beauty every day
Yes to me they are golden
As I watch the sunset colours play!

Listen to their voices

Listen to their little voices
Hear that of which they would speak
For before you know it: time passes
Those little voices will be as the wind
Did you hear them laughing?
Did you hear them cry?
Everything passes within a moment
Do not let the laughter pass you by!

"Listen! Or your tongue will make you deaf!"

Cherokee saying

Old trees in a forest

Getting old should be a blessing
Think of all those things you've learned
Everything you have loved: the laughter
Should be reverenced and held dear
For no-one else may hold those memories
No-one else may understand that journey
Unless you share those memories
Yes share them with love and laughter
Share them with your families!

"There is a dignity about the social intercourse
of old Indians which reminds me of a stroll
through a winter forest."

Cochise: Chiricahua Apache

Speak your words with love

"Be careful when speaking.
You create the world around you
With your words!"

From the Navajo

Every word you utter
Every word you speak
Can do a world of wonder or
Shatter the hearts of the weak
So think about those words you utter
Think upon the impact they may have
Wouldn't it be better darling
To speak your words with love!

Indians (in dios)

Christopher Columbus simply
Called the natives of America
"un gente que vive en dios"
"A people who live in God"
They lived simple lives: living with God
Prayed and honoured God
Honoured everything that God gave
Used every thing to the utmost
Nothing was wasted: ever
Honoured their elders
Highly esteemed their women & children
Taught them love, compassion, honour
I honour their ways: their lives!
I would be "en dios": "indios": in God
I would be honoured to be called an Indian!

Come and see

As a teen I heard Russell Morris sing
"Come and see the real thing: come and see!"
Well it's my turn to tell everybody: come and see!

Come and see the real thing come and see!
It is Jesus who saves: it is Jesus who lives
Right here inside of me: come and see!
I am here to tell my story: here to spread the word
That Jesus has the glory: Jesus: of the world: He is Lord!

Feeding the hungry

There is a hunger of the heart
A desperate yearning need
To find that which is lost them
A search for love: guaranteed!
Jesus would have us feed them
Jesus would send us to their aid
Yes it is for Jesus' words they hunger
Yes it is Jesus' love they crave!
