Hallett Cove beach

 Drove along the coast
Following the beach
Needed to relax
Needed some release
Too many people
Walking, swimming, surfing
I wanted to find
A quiet spot
For peace of mind
Free from the press
Room to breathe
Peace to think
Without the bodies
Without the noise
Needed quiet contemplation
Needed my own space
Ended up in Hallett Cove
Secluded: far from crowds
Here I wandered
Close to the water
Was drawn to that sound
There I was lost in nature
Closer to my dearest Lord
There I found that quietness

To calm my tortured soul

Feeling sad

I’m feeling sad these days
Too much sadness just
Gets in the way: tears flow
I just wish they’d go
Sick of feeling like this
Sick of the endless days
Can't sleep at night
It’s just not right: you know
How much longer will it be?
Until I can finally see the sun
Until I feel like a bit of fun?
Until there is some happiness
In this sad life of mine?

Swimming at the sandbar Loxton North

Teenage years were a blast
After I found a good mate
In my best friend Wendy
We’d visit each other’s homes
Spend hours hanging out
Doing girly things for ages
Watching movies and stuff
Plucking each other’s eyebrows
Discussing girly things and
Swimming down at the sandbar
During those long summer days
We soaked up those rays
Ah those really were the days
What a memory it is to me now
As I look back over time
To those beautiful days in Loxton!

The fat lip

I remember many years ago
How I was ashamed to show
My face in public you know
I had taken a blow to my lip!
It swelled up and grew
Looked awful I’m telling you
It was all black and blue
Yes my poor old fat lip!
A friend came around
He saw my fat lip and knew
Things were not going well
I was already living in hell
Before we’d married it’s true!
I remember something
My father had said to him
“You can’t hit her until you are married”
I think it was meant as a joke but
Ask any bloke and he’ll tell you
“It’s ok to give her a few!
“She probably deserved it!”
Yes even his best mate had a view
“Just give her a slap
If she gives you crap!”

Well thanks a lot guys but I disagree
If you can’t win her with love
Given from God in heaven up above
Then you blokes just don’t deserve her!

Scared Silly

It’s amazing how sometimes a silly prank
Can really backfire: cause a huge scare
We’d arrived in Kingston-on-Murray years ago
We were waiting outside the little shop
A family friend thought he’d play a joke
He snuck up to the open car window
He simply said “Boo” but what a to-do!
My two girls burst into terrified tears
Screaming in fear: yes it’s simple dear
After our fighting at home: we’d come
To escape for a while to Grandma’s place
I know he didn’t mean anything by it
But we’d been through a lot back then
Angry fights and yelling and screaming
So that’s all it took to have us all spooked
My poor little girls faces as we jumped in shock
As we looked around and finally too stock
It was a terrible time for us all back then

Yes it was something that will never ever leave us!

The Lioness

A few months ago as a joke: on Facebook
I asked people to respond to this:
“If I was arrested: what would it be for?”
My kids know how cranky I get
When I haven’t eaten yet
So of course that’s what they said
“Hitting someone when she’s hungry!”
Of course they all thought it a big joke
But another friend said of me
“For protecting her cubs!”
Well I wholeheartedly agree, Sandy
I will do anything to protect my kids!
Well close to anything I suppose!
But that’s just how it goes: a lioness
Will protect her cubs with her life
That’s just how I feel: that’s just me!
After putting up with so much
I am not willing to put up with any more!
I will stand up for what is right
Yes I will fight for my kids: my grandkids!
I am a lioness where they are concerned!
Just like daughter Vanessa too
She will stand up for justice
Stand up for what is right!
That protection instinct just kicks in!
So watch out guys; hear us roar!

It started before we married

It started before we married
I happened before I knew
The pain we caused each other
Those things that we would do
I knew things would go haywire
Just like a devilish witches brew
We said our vows in the church
We said "I do" walked past the pews
But already things were troubled
Already there seemed nothing I could do
Mum told me a story long ago
About her daughter crying out to her
Saying "I don't want to marry him!"
As she sat upon her knee
But it took a while for me to understand
That crying girl was me!
I couldn't remember that part
It was lost from my memory
But mum still remembers
Just like it was yesterday: you see
That's what stays in her mind
Even after all these long years
And it will for eternity!
