Man/Mo Restaurant in Melbourne's Docklands

Tried something different on our Melbourne trip
Decided to have a meal at the Man/Mo Restaurant
It is right on the edge of the Docklands Marina
Thought we'd try it for some fun: expensive though it was
I said to my beautiful girls:" when have we ever eaten out
At an expensive restaurant? Never in our lives!"
So we went inside and ordered a delicious meal
Watching as the rain came pouring down outside
We were warm and cosy: we were quite at ease
As we waited for the service: enjoying the scenery
The tall buildings all around, the waterside so close
Ah it was a pleasure to sit relaxed with Evaleah too
Vanessa ordered garlic prawns: they were so huge!
Shelley decided upon the banquet menu: Peking duck
Szechuan steak, fried rice and a glass of wine
While I stuck with something simple: was surprised
It came in a sizzling bowl with fresh chili on the side
It was so very delicious, tasty and spicy all in one
It brought a tear to my eyes: oh that chili was nice!
That sweet Basil chicken was a masterpiece
It was the best thing I ate while I was in Melbourne
Thank you to the chefs at the Man/Mo restaurant!

Genes inherited

I've been looking at some photos
Seeing all those incredible things
Remarkable similarities between
My dear little grand-children and me
Just watched Zac pulling up his sleeves
I cannot stand it when my sleeves slip
I have to pull them up again and again
Until they are just right: comfortable
Just below my elbows is where they go
Then I feel happy until they slip below
He looks a lot like his Tia Shelley
Only of course he is a little boy but
It is eerily uncanny how much he is
Just like she was at the very same age!
Those gorgeous big brown eyes of his
The cheeky little impish grin
Yes it could be my girl Shelley walking in!
He even draws upon the walls
No paper drawing for him: cheeky rascal that he is
I saw the evidence last time I went to Sedan

Texta drawings on the walls of our old home
Compliments of our little Shelley: precious girl
Yesterday I found some more: on Violeta's wall
Oh yes we are so similar as we grow along
We look like our parents and grand-parents
We move just like them as we walk along
Those little things we recognize every day
The tilt of the head: the quirky smile
Some little nuance that takes us by surprise
Yes we are just like our ancestors
Even if it's just a tiny little bit
It is most definitely in our genes
No denying it!

The Ibis Motel

Stayed at a tiny little motel
Close to Tullamarine Airport
Thought it best to stay close
To save us time when it came
To fly out on our return flight
We hung around together
In one room until the night
Resting, talking, sharing
Enjoying our special time

After our day out we relaxed
Watched a movie together
"Girls just wanna have fun"
Thought it so appropriate!
After I'd turned in to bed
My girls reminisced about
The last time they'd done it
Actually just relaxed together
In their pyjamas sharing girly time
Found it had been a very long time!

Up up and away

We're leaving on a Jet Star A360
We know when we'll be back again
We'll be on tomorrow's QANTAS flight
Oh Lord I want to go: to Melbourne!

We'd gotten up at 4 am, freezing cold
Humberto drove us to the airport
The streets were empty: we were blessed
It was still raining down; what a mess

Adelaide Airport: full of life
So many travellers every where
Our eagerness filled the air
Checked out the breakfast lounge
Forced down a bit of food: coffee too
Settled my belly: really good
Bought a green beanie for my Shell
She'd lost hers somewhere: what the hell!

I stole Shelley's window seat
Made her cranky but no sweat
Said she could have it on the way back
Then we tried to settle back: relax a bit

The plane shuddered: lurched a bit
My girls were scared just a little they admit
Knuckles white upon the seats
Seat belts buckled up so tight

Then we were up, up and away
Engines roaring: plane took flight
Out over the ocean blue
Yes heading up into that cloud filled sky

I watched the suburbs far down below
Street lights bright in the quiet night
Yes we were up in those skies
Catching another day's pale sun rise

On our way to Melbourne!

Trip to Melbourne

We took a trip my girls and I
We got on a plane, had to fly
Though scared at first we arrived
In chilly, cold Melbourne: sighed!
Took a while to disembark
Carried our gear to the taxi rank
First taxi guy was such a crank
He was mean: had a lot of angst
Didn't want our short taxi ride
Was so nasty we almost cried
But hell we'd just arrived
Wouldn't let him dampen our pride
We'd taken our second ever flight
And finally landed at Tullamarine!

Dreaming of the Murray

We loved to have a break
After all our work was done
Swimming in the River Murray
At Moorook we'd have our fun
I recall so many dreams I had
When I was much older too
I dreamt of swimming around
Beside that old concrete slab
Chasing all my childhood friends
Jumping into that cool water
Playing silly games as we did
Throwing a tennis ball around
Making up games as we went along
Our laughter and screams echoing
As we had our wonderful fun!

The television tower

Way back in the 1960's as kids
We lived out the back of Moorook
There were no indoor games worth playing
No computer games like there are now
There was only dirt outside to play in
Grass and weeds to roll in, trees to climb
We had to have a huge TV antenna
To pick up any signal to be found
As we watched those old programs
Those are sadly no longer around!
I loved to climb up anything I found
My favourite was my almond tree but
There was also that huge TV tower
I decided I could do it: I knew I could you know!
So I took up climbing that huge TV tower
Though I never did get right up to the top
I was so totally amazed and thrilled
That I almost got half way up to see
The whole area that was all around!
I felt so tiny: like an ant: as I looked down
To see those tiny little bits of our ground
I could see our neighbour's houses
I could see those beautiful almond trees
As I turned around and spied everything
That I could never see whilst on the ground!
