Found the last entry in my old diary
It was a sad memory for me...
Though it was of promise and plenty
I knew the ending was not gentle
It declared a new life was coming
The child would be born in June 1981
Maybe on Tim's next birthday...
They would be getting married soon
To cement their relationship too
It would happen in three weeks time
We attended the wedding at the registry
It was a simple, pleasant memory
Not long afterwards came sad tidings
Miscarriage...the baby longed for: gone
Sadness and turmoil would ensue
All those sad memories were here too
I remember all the madness that ensued
Breakups, anger, make ups, more pain
Ah dear Lord the pain...
That came before next June
Who could have predicted it so soon

Pink skies
The sky was an amazing sight tonight
Pretty pink to welcome in the night
Pale and perfect: a precious visual delight
I was totally amazed and happily surprised
At God's gorgeous evening palette

Pick up the pieces
Over the years it's been the same
Whenever this life becomes a pain
When troubles come: such a shame
Everybody likes to lay the blame
She falls apart when troubles come
She feels that inside there is no sun
Runs a mile: escapes her life: humdrum
Travels far away: lives for another day
Picks up the pieces: is on her way again
Her search for love is long and drawn
Each precious new day: she awaits the dawn
She dreams of him: can't see his face
But she knows one day: he'll come apace
She falls apart when troubles come
Yet deep inside she feels some sun
Though she runs away: she returns anon
Travels far and wide in search of one
Picks up those pieces: carries on
Now her life is changing once again
Her children grown: her husband gone
A new day dawns: she's looking round
Sensing love that must come along
She falls apart when troubles come
Yet she knows that love's not gone
It's only hidden: within the clouds
She knows that time has finally come
To pick up the pieces: welcome him
Whenever this life becomes a pain
When troubles come: such a shame
Everybody likes to lay the blame
She falls apart when troubles come
She feels that inside there is no sun

Pain among the lemons
There could be a joke to tell
But it wasn't funny at all
I slipped on the lemon trailer
Hurt my poor back again
I was sorting out rotten lemons
Tossing them out into the bin
When I slipped as I was working
Ah the pain was terrible...
I was in the back of the semi trailer
I remember screaming...
Was it a silent scream from hell?
Or did I actually let it out?
I really cannot remember it that well
But the pain was remorseless
It was unrelenting to say the least
Pain and more pain: ah the screams
Going on within my poor old head
Shooting down my backbone
Screaming throughout my poor body
I was in agony from that little slip
I was unable to continue on
I had to leave work that day
Had to go back to the doctors again
For I'd hurt my back...worse than before
And now I was suffering as well!

Moocher
The guys went on a shooting trip
Ian and Tim and Guy too
It was always the same old deal
Two would provide everything...
He'd come along for the ride
But if it was necessary to offer up
No he could never ever provide
Anything...
Always borrowing petrol...
Always just in time for food
Always the same old story
No money, no luck, no pay
Sometimes I wondered
Was it ever any different?
At any time during their days
Is just didn't seem to be at all fair
That he relied upon the other two
To always provide everything
No matter what they did
Or where they went
It was always just the same...

Malcolm Frazer won
We voted in the elections
Malcolm Frazer won
That was back in 1980
On the 18th of October
When the voting was done...
I wrote it in my diary
I read it just today...
Its funny how we remember
Some things we write on down
Would I even recall it now?
If I hadn't done that then...
Well I guess it doesn't matter
Many years have flown on by
But still it is written there
And seen by my own eyes
A distant little memory
Of little value to me now
But more importantly on that day
I met Nancy and Jenny Harrington
And Chris walker from Katherine NT
They are childhood friends
And those memories die hard

Ten dollars and a bottle of plonk
The car was playing up
Sometimes it wouldn't start
It was either slowing down
Or revving way too fast...
Though they tried to fix it
Though they tried so hard
It just wasn't happening
No matter what they tried
Finally they took it in
To the garage up the road
He offered to fix it up
It really wasn't very hard
Just pay me with $10...
And a bottle of plonk he said
Mr Towill was always a good bloke
So we bought him a nice bottle of red
And the ten dollars was enough
To knock that bill: right on its old head...
