Alone in her room in dark of
night
Utterly dejected: head in
her hands
Wishing to meet up with the
Christ
Thoughts of throwing herself
at His feet
Telling Him of her problems;
her fears
Knew He wouldn’t spurn her tears
Showing pity: comfort for
her upon her knees
“If He comes?” she promised herself
“I will serve Him faithfully for the rest of my life!”
The door opened: a man stood
there
“Do you want to see Jesus?” he said to her
“He is here: you can see Him if you desire
Take up all your things & follow me”
Ellen followed that angel
bright
To a steep stairway he led
“Do not look down or you will fall”
Thus he led the way up those
frail stairs
Many walked along with her
but
Some glanced down & fell
far below
At the door he said: “leave all your things outside”
Without hesitation she complied
The angel beckoned her inside
Jesus
stood before her: kindness & majesty
His searing eyes penetrated
to her very soul
She knew He understood
everything
At first she tried to hide
away from His gaze but
His dazzling smile
encouraged her forward
Laying His hand upon her head: “Fear not” He said
His voice filled her with
happiness so great
Overcome with emotion: she fell
at His feet
There she was in heaven with
Him!
Finally as her strength
returned
Christ smiled at her: in her
heart great love was born
The angel guide returned:
opened up that door
She turned reluctantly:
picked up her things
As she was bid: bundled up
within her arms
A coiled green cord was
handed to her
Told to “place it next to your heart”
This she did: the simple
part!
“Whenever you wish to see your Lord again
Take the cord & stretch it out but remember
Do not leave it coiled too long: knots & tangles
Will be difficult to bring undone!”
Descending the stairs her joy
increased
Everyone she met along the
way
She told of Jesus’ love that
day
