For Caesar ‘twas the ides of
March
For Lefty it is the sixth
How many times have you been
held?
Within the dear Lord’s arms
Ask Lefty how it felt?
For he was tossed upon
life’s trail
He was catapulted near unto
death
When another thought to pass
his motorbike
Upon the hill’s stark crest
Though he tried to escape
his fate
Though he tried to swerve
He woke up four months later
on
But half the man he was!
Now this is the tale he told
Upon that spring blessed day
When I asked if I could tell
How Lefty got his name?
James Watt he was born and
James Watt he still is
But I only knew him as Lefty
Until now!
James joined the RAAF
He left on March 6th
in 1985
He worked in the city
Five days a week
Spent his weekends in the
country
Playing footy for Mintaro/
Manoora
Loving his life, his work;
his vineyard
Business was good; printing
great
He was two weeks away
From getting his dream trial
match
Playing for Central
Districts!
He used to run from Hove to The Bay
Hove to Warradale
alternately
He rolled his car on 6th
march
Lived to tell that tale
And then it came to be on 6th
of March
24 long years ago
That Lefty met his match
The doctor stabilised him at
the scene
Taken to Riverton; from
there to RAH
On that table he died twice
He saw the brightest light and followed
it
Found Jesus there and was
Shown many a wondrous thing
Right there in Jesus’ arms
Only to be told “it’s not
yet your time
I have to send you back!”
His fitness was his saving
grace
Though he’s spent 8 years in
hell
Only saw peace in the
bottle’s call
Was lost for many a long
year
Then finally returned after
all!
Acceptance took a very long
time
But he’s here to tell the
tale!
Lost his business; used by
his mate
Couldn’t understand his
fate!
Moved to Casa’s house
Down by the river in Swan
Reach
Faithful Susie Q lived with
him there
Till she died in June of ‘95
She was his $10,000 dog!
Then he had Jemma for 14
years
Big beautiful Rottweiler
that she was
His faithful friend indeed!
Then Sasha came along
Full of life and love
Should have called her
‘Duracell’
She never could sit still!
Those things that Jesus
showed to him
He is amazed still
For as he lives his life
right now
He is amazed to see it all
Yes! It’s all come true as
Jesus said
It’s just like ‘déjà vu’!
