Amazing witness coincidence

The accident happened at 11:30 pm
On the 24th May way back in 1982
Two cars were drag racing down Magill Road
One cut the other off as they neared the corner
Of Magill Road and Portrush Road, Trinity Gardens
The other car careened around the corner
Over the median strip: airborne as it hit
The stationary car: waiting at the traffic lights
Tim was the driver: doing his good deed
Taking a friend home: going out of his way
Denis had had a few too many: was on foot
But Tim said: "No mate, I'll take you home!"
The driver of the blue EH Holden was Anthony
He lived in Holden Hill: said he was insured
Comprehensively: said He would cover Tim's bill
Turns out he was lying: turns out it was untrue
There was no insurance cover: no money
No help was ever to come from him...not his fault!
There seemed to be no witnesses: nobody around
After all it was late at night: darkness all around
Later on a witness did come forward...coincidence?
Somebody doing an assignment: gathering statistics
Sitting in the darkness: counting the number of cars
They saw the third car: leaving the scene
Yes; driving away from that terrible accident
Proving that it was nobody's fault
Nobody could be held to blame
For the one who caused it all
The driver of that dark BMW was long gone
Nobody ever came forward to say
"It was me...it was all my fault...I'm so sorry!"
