Riverland rain

It's raining in the Riverland
I heard the news: it was planned
It's been months to tell the truth
Since the dust was flattened down
It's been as dry as Hades
It's been so very deadly for the trees
This area has been overlooked
It always seems to end this way
The rain clouds appear on the horizon
Then like magic they go away
They are split asunder by the thunder
They avoid the centre of the Riverland...
The partition seems so determined
It decides to with-hold the cleansing rain
And those left in the middle
Can do nought but maybe complain...
So though we did our laundry
Though we hoped for some sunshine
I know this blessed rain is needed
I thank the dear Lord over and over again
