Unbelievable bill

They were coming home from a long drive
Towing the heavy trailer behind the car
The two of them enjoying their time together
My daughter spending time with her dad
I called them up just to see how far they were
Just to find out how much longer they would be
For the rest of us were waiting: ready for tea
It was November, way back in 1999
Suddenly there was trouble: terrible it was too
The trailer was too heavy: it didn't like the corners
It did not like that steep descent: it tipped over
Causing a massive diesel spill: at the very bottom
Yes at the very bottom of that steep and winding hill!
There was a call upon the radio: please come and help
There was a massive clean-up: Council, Police, C.F.S. too
Flashing lights were everywhere as we drove past
Gong up to report it at the local Police station

After the clean up we were served with the bill
There were two small gouges in the bitumen road
Two small pieces that needed repairing
But the amazing thing was the total amount
A massive, huge, outrageous sum total
Over one thousand dollars to repair it all
Money for the supervisor, the team leader
Money for the maintenance worker, the utility
Money for overtime, double time as well
A truck and tipper up to 7 tonne
A loader and a broom, D4-6A signs
A sign post and 0.05 tonne x 7mm premix
All to fix a few tiny little gouges 
At the very bottom of that steep and winding hill
