Fishing at Kingston-on-Murray

After my dad's illness in 1993
I was worried because he seemed
To have lost his love of life but
Thank the dear Lord he still loved fishing!
I remember going down to the river
At Kingston-on-Murray
To my Uncle Tony's place
We all went fishing with my mum and dad
My husband Tim and I brought our girls too!
They all had fun watching dad fish
Though he only caught carp
There was no Red-fin that day
Those introduced carp were too bony
We didn't like to eat them!
Thus whatever was caught?
Were left out of the water
To let them die on the shore!
Too many of those carp had ruined
The fishing along our dear River Murray
Carp love to mess up the river bottoms
Destroying the eggs of our native fish
Like Red-fin, Callop and Murray Cod
To name just a few!
