The underground water tank

We needed to have water closer
To our little country house
So my dad decided to
Get a friend to help
My Uncle Tony's new father-in-law
Had a licence to use gelignite
So he came and did the blasting
At our home; at that very site!
I remember hearing the blasts
I remember hearing the rocks fall
Onto the roof of our new house
Then we could see the huge hole
That had been blasted out
A great big hole in the ground
Ready to be fixed up
To be our underground water tank!
Dad and Uncle Tony worked hard
To clean out all that rubble
They made huge piles of rocks
It was deep and scary at first
But I remember all the fossils
Yes those shells we collected
And took along to school
Showing off to our friends!
The tank was lined with
Water proofing stuff
To hold that water in!
We filled it up overnight
But it was all gone the next day
So they had to do it all again!
The next time they added
A deeper pit for the water pump
They filled it again; it seemed to work
Then overnight it was all gone again!
They did that work all over again
This time it worked: thank God!
Third time lucky I guess!
Finally we had our water
After all that fuss and expense
We ha dour underground water tank
We felt we were truly blessed!
