I remember living in the tiny
Two bedroom house my dad built
It was only two rooms because
That's all we could afford and
That's all we needed!
There were only the four of us!
Mum and dad, my brother and me!
We all slept in one bedroom
Tiny as it was!
The other room was our kicthen
Living room, everything!
That's all there was!
We had a wood burning stove
With and oven and all!
A kerosene fridge and lamps for light
No electricity back then!
For baths there was a big oval shaped
Metal tub; we placed it in front
Of the fire place in winter time
To keep ourselves warm!
One day dad was really excited
We left work early at Harrington's
I went with my dad
I loved being with him
Anywhere he went!
We were driving along the road
From the River to Kingston-on-Murray
I saw a huge thing turning up the hill
Dad said "Do you know what that is?"
I said: "Is it a train?"
He said "No! It's our new house!"
We followed it up the hill
Dad waited until he could pass
Then he indicated for them to follow us and
We showed them where to go!
The semi-trailer came to our property
Where our new home was unloaded
Onto huge bricks set out in two rows
That was our new home!
