Two guests

We baked a chocolate cake
My gorgeous daughter and I
For your birthday; today mum
You would have been 79
My dearest, darling mother; mine
We celebrate though you're not here
For we all miss you, it's very clear
Really, really wish you were here...
Shelley blew out her candles
They were like a funeral pyre
Great flaming, smoking conflagration
Thought they'd explode; go haywire
They reignited two times
Though she blew them out
Made me think about another time
Remembered what a friend had said
Quite a few years ago
About some guests; departed
Those we couldn't see
Enjoying the celebrations
Just like they used to be
So mum was there beside us
And her darling daddy Tim too
Enjoying our celebrations
In their honour; dear ones
We miss and love you...
