Words

Words can be loving
Words can be cruel
The way we say them
Can change their meaning
Harsh words hurt and wound
Soft words flow from love
Yet softness is not a weakness
It is a blessed way to speak
We should treat everyone
Exactly as we would have them treat us
We should speak words of kindness
To everyone we meet
We know not what they are going through
Just as they do not know
What we are going through in our lives!
Let dear Jesus our example
Dear Jesus our one true Lord
He came to save us from iniquity
He came to save us from this world!

I open up my Heart

I open up my heart
I ask my Lord to guide me
His angels are always
Right here beside me
We communicate without speaking
Just like in Simon and Garfunkel's
"The sounds of Silence"
Though it is no neon God
To whom I pray...
We communicate every day
We communicate every night
Twenty four/seven!
Every moment I am aware
I am guided by my dear Lord's love
What joy to be able to be so close!
To my dearest Lord in heaven!

Understanding intuition

I was led to find that book on intuition
"Cracking the code on Intuition"
Written by Gail Ferguson
Fascinating reading!
More so because I have had
Many intuitive experiences
That "gut feeling" is so strong!
We must listen and learn to hear
Those deeply seated feelings are
Our compass in these uncertain times
There is a reason for our intuition
To guide us as we live our lives
They anchor us to this earth
Assist us in our daily lives!

The other day as I was preparing
To leave home with my daughter
I looked at my umbrella
It was 38 degrees C
Why would I need an  umbrella?
I left it where it was
Ignoring my intuition!
That night in Adelaide
It started raining and continued
For most of the next day!
That umbrella would have
Come in handy; if only I had listened!

Waves of energy

Waves of energy emanate
From every creature on this earth
Can you feel them? Can you see them?
Sometimes I feel them radiate
Sometimes I just know things
I feel and understand another's pain
I am like a sponge; I soak it all up
It feels wonderful to have this...
Intuition; understanding; love!

Amy welcomed me home as always
She was jumping for joy
As my car entered the garage!
I went inside and missed her instantly
I had to find her; urgently!
Hurrying outside I called
No answer! Panic overwhelmed me
I raced back to the garage
Looked underneath the car
There she was; having a seizure
I couldn't reach her!
I was on my belly; grabbed her tail
Pulled from underneath!
As she stiffened up in pain
Her back was against the exhaust pipe
Burning heat seared her skin
I carried her inside and held her close
Took care of my darling pet
Treated her injuries and
Finally all was calm!

Circle of light

Light is love; love is light
God gives us His light
His words are love
His words are light
Jesus; light of the world
Brought us from sin
Took us into His heart
Lifted us from our iniquity
His blood purified us
Made us clean
His light encircles
His light glows around us
We are His children
We are His people
He loves us like a Father
His love is unconditional

Gossamer ribbons

We are all connected
To heaven up above
Gossamer ribbons
Streaming down in love
Unseen powers guide us
Warm our hearts with love
This earth is a way station
Between heaven and hell
Some places
Are hell on earth
Some are like heaven
But everywhere
Angels await our call

Angels in my room

Angels in  my room
I ask and I receive
Heavenly blessings
Singing out of tune
They understand
They listen; they come
We communicate
Without words
Silent partners
Everywhere I go
I just know
They are with me!

The voice of an angel

Simon and Garfunkel: music and poetry
Their eyes: windows to their souls
Art's voice: that of an angel singing
Full of heart and soul; so beautiful
So mesmerising; pealing like a bell
Paul's words; his pain, his joy
Heart wrenching; speaking plainly
Lord help me imitate their abilities
The sincerity of words and voices
Joined together in harmony
Brings peace beyond understanding
I heard angels singing for a moment
This I can compare to that beauty
Indescribable; simple words could never
Be enough to explain what I heard
Never enough to show how I felt
That beautiful connection
Between heaven and earth

Thank you Csongor

Thank you Csongor
For helping me out
Thank you for your time
In editing my dear Lord's words
Thank you for helping me
To spread my dear Lord's words
Thank you for travelling so far
Thank you dearest Lord
For sharing your love!

Angel Noelle

Noelle you are my angel
You are my sweet
Thank you
For helping my little pet
Thank you for being there
When I needed you the most
You helped me cope
You took Amy to your heart
You will always be in my life
A dearest part!

Solar energy

Finally we have our solar panels
Connected to the grid
At last; the energy is growing
Solar panels working to lower
The energy we use
We need to use renewable energy
We need to help our poor earth
Replenish its self; keep it living
So we can live here safely too!

Slip, slop, slap

The sun's rays beat down upon us
They burn so quickly I'll let you know
But now we have a different problem
Our sunscreen works too well
People are getting ill from the lack
Of natural Vitamin D
Our Slip, Slop, Slap campaign (1980)
Seems to have worked too well
Sunscreen stops those UV rays
Stops them getting to our skin
So now that Vitamin D
Is not getting in!
With melanoma's killing so many
Of course we Slip, Slop, Slap
Wouldn't you choose the lesser of two evils?
If you had that chance?
My mum lost her right eye to melanoma
The doctors tried radiation to kill the cancer
But that was a waste of time
Finally they decided to take it out
So poor mum went through the treatment
Then still had to have her eye removed!
We never wore sunglasses back in the 1960's
How could my parents have worked: picking fruit
With sunglasses on: now we know they should have!
But it is way too late: the melanoma has won!

(Slip on shirt, slop on sunscreen, slap on a hat!)

Now they recommend a long sleeved shirt
Sunglasses & also seeking shade
To protect our precious delicate skin
Don't let it be too late to protect the skin you're in!

My dog was just like me

Kia was going a little blind
Kia was going a little deaf
Kia was getting a little fat
She was always looking
For something to eat
Just like me!
They say pets start
To look like their owners
But she really was looking
Just like me!

I've been swimming this summer
Trying to gain a little bit
Of fitness and a little bit of health
Poor Kia I couldn't take you walking
I couldn't give you your exercise
If I had it over
I'd make more of an effort
I'm sorry my dearest Kia
That you have gone from me
I hope to see you in heaven
Along with Kaiser my first canine son
Knowing Jesus' promises
We'll meet again someday!

Dear Kia RIP

Dear Kia's been gone since August
Amy misses her mum so much
At first she was so confused
Didn't understand her loss
They used to cuddle up together
Shared their doggy basket
Big enough for two
Amy is now so much closer
To her human family
She cuddles up into our laps
She follows after us
Cuddles up at our feet
On the bed; needs our body
To keep her warm!

Last day of Summer

Last day of summer
Heat already gone
Sunshine seems a little duller
The wind blows colder now
Daylight passes more quickly
Night time lasts so long
The birds are growing quieter
They now sing their autumn song
Snakes and lizards getting lazy
Butterflies disappear into the skies
There are no whys or wherefores
The days are spinning out of control

Let it be me

I hate it when my grandsons are sick
I wish I could take away their pain
I wish I could take their place
I can't bear to see them so ill
It hurts me to feel so helpless
So useless in keeping them from harm
These past few weeks have been difficult
To hear them being sick and in pain
Oh lord I pray: Let it be me instead!

Monty Python and the Holy Grail

I love the tales of King Arthur
The tales of his wonderful knights!
Thought I'd take my new boyfriend
To watch a movie one beautiful night
It was Monty Python and The Holy Grail
That we went to see
He'd never heard of them
So he agreed to go with me!
He was surprised! To say the least
As King Arthur and his men
Chased after that Holy Grail
My laughter was erupting
He was sitting quietly
Looking at my face and probably thinking
"What have I got myself into here?"

The years have passed
We've been married over thirty years
We still watch Monty Python
Our whole family laughs along
We quote and laugh together
Enjoying their silly antics
Year after long happy year!

All about Eve

Lost our friends
They went overseas
Met some new ones
My pain was eased.
We wrote to each other
Pen pals: I guess
Only saw each other
Every now and then
Years passed; we grew up
I visited Melbourne
Had my licence then
Drove on over
We had a double date
Eve and her boyfriend
Her brother and me
Went tenpin bowling
Never been before
He was a good-looker
I did think he was cute but
Behind those big green eyes
I was so embarrassed as he
Whispered into my ear
Told me of his prowess and
Of his ...
I was in shock!
I was a virgin
I didn't know where to look
Pretended to enjoy the scenery
As we travelled into that
Beautiful old city!

Burning a hole in my pocket

Never was very good at saving
Always had to spend my dosh
Couldn't save if my life depended on it
It was always; burning a hole in my pocket
I couldn't help it; I was rash
Had to spend that cash!
Watched amazed as my brother
Saved his up to buy his stuff
He bought a box of loquats
I wished he'd share with me but
He had them all for himself
Childhood memories still linger!

While my dad watched

Top of Moorook hill
Overlooking the lagoon
Martha and I
Wanted to drive the car
Across the road
To her place
I was a learner
Confident in my ability
I slowly drove up that road
Indicated to turn right
Then a huge Semi
Was bearing down on us
I panicked!
Couldn't wait for it to pass
I rushed in front of it
Across the road
While my dad watched!

Milk bottle mess

Milk came in bottles
Way back when
Pretty coloured caps of
Aluminium foil
Dropped a bottle
Landed neatly
Sprayed the cream
Up into the air
Little circle of cream
Stained old white ceiling

Death on the road (1970's)

Heard the screeching of those tortured tyres
Way before we saw that careening car
Going too fast to make the bend
Saw it flip onto that telephone pole
Twisted wreckage; bent double
Heated metal; ticking over; dripping oil
No way to escape; no second chance
Heat escaping; vapours hissing
Dripping oil; dripping blood
One life was missing!

Playing with Fire

Silly teenager
Home all alone
Nothing better to do
Than something stupid
Testing the properties
Of the blue cellophane
Lit a match
Watched it catch
Instantly!
Fire burning
Plastic melting
Bucket of water
Saving my life!
Saving me from strife!
Cleaning up the mess
Too scared to confess!
Lord help me!

Evening Kaleidoscope

Glorious hot red sunset
Shadows elongated; darkening
Driving away from her light
Towards the East
A kaleidoscope of colours
Following; chasing me
Glorious reds; orange hues
Between the darkening greens
Shadowed eucalypt trees
Bushes emerging from their beds
Beneath the azure blues
So many amazing hues
Stars silently awakening above my head
Clouds pinkening as I sped
Along the winding roads
Home: to my family!

Pain over beauty

Glenelg beach on a sultry Sunday evening
So unbearably hot for me
My mentalpause is overwhelming me
Hot flushes; can't sleep at night
My thoughts erratic at best
The need to feel that cooling water
Over-rides all else!
Even the sand is cool now
The evening shadows are so tall
I walk into that welcoming water
Never suspecting any danger
I'm frolicking in the cooling tides
My flippers and goggles on!
I find a tiny beautiful sea shell
I see a little fish swim by
I am joyful in the total coolness
I am floating; watching life swim by!
Then; pain snatches away my brief respite
I am filled with its starkness
So opposite to my ease
Now I must cut short my cooling relief
I must seek the shelter of my daughter's home
The stinging grows hotter upon my calf
As I quickly retreat from that jellyfish
She rules the waves tonight!
I grab my things and start walking
I turn around to watch the sunset
Growing in its beauty but
I cannot stop to view this pleasant sight
Pain over-rides all splendour
It is stronger that any pretty sight!
I only catch glimpses of that pink hued sky
As I retreat up that cool sand
Nothing is as important
As reaching the safety of her home!

Mother's hands

Mother’s hands have seen hard work
Mother’s hands have been hurt
She tends and cares for all she loves
She works hard to keep them fed
She gives everything to keep them clothed
The movements of her hands never cease
They are the ties that bind them to her
They are ceaseless; forever kind
Though her eyes may go blind
She never stops to think of herself
She is self-less in her work
Always they must come first
Her heart’s blood she gives for love!

Sunday at the beach

Glenelg beach
Sunset
Pinkish hues
Gorgeous views
People walking dogs
Children playing
Green grass
Trees swaying
Bubbles floating up
Like tiny birds
Fleeing on the breeze

Don't sweat the small stuff

I used to be one uptight mum
So stressed; so outta-sight
As a teen; I worried about my ears
I worried about my nose
You know that was silly
I do suppose!
Then later on
I used to worry if my poor kids
Dropped something in the car
Spilled a drink or food
Made a mess
What a fussy mum!
Now I know those little things
Don't really matter
In the end
There's so much more to care about
So many more important things
Things that really matter in the end!
So don't sweat the small stuff!
Don't worry about those little things!
They won't matter in another year
They won't matter in ten but
Other things will take their place
Like having kids listen
With the important stuff!
Manners, telling the truth
Respecting others
Respecting themselves
Honouring their parents
Caring for our elderly
Caring for the weaker ones
Truly understanding the value of life!

Stinger Jellyfish

Stinger; jellyfish
Pain bringer
Ouch!
Where's the vinegar?
Someone help me please!
Apple cider vinegar
Helped a bit
Aloe Vera; the same
Raw onion juice
Instant relief!
Respite was brief
Kept applying it
Beyond belief!

Yummy Banana Bread

Santiago doesn’t like bananas but
He loves banana bread
From Gloria Jeans coffee shop
He loves hot chocolate too!
When it’s all frothy and
Covered in sprinkles and cream!
I have a recipe for banana bread
I’ve made it once or twice
He loves his banana bread
He eats it by the slice!

Recipe

Ingredients:

4ozs (1 cup) (100g) butter
4ozs (1 cup) (100g) sugar
3-4 ripe bananas
8ozs (2 cups) (200g) S.R. flour
1 small tsp bi-carb soda
A pinch of salt
2 eggs
1 gill milk (approx ½ cup)

Method:

Cream butter and sugar
Beat eggs thoroughly
Add sifted flour and well-mashed bananas
Finally add the soda dissolved in the milk

Mix lightly till smooth and creamy

Bake in moderate oven 180 degrees C (fan-forced)
(I make my in muffin trays and bake for 24 minutes)

Wings unfurled

For years I’ve been trying to fly
Trying to rise above this life of mine
Unsuccessfully; unhappily!
Now I see that all I needed
Was a little push
A little encouragement
A bit of momentum
To get me off the ground and
Up into that glorious sky!
Even in my dreams
I was always trying to rise
Up above the others chasing
Behind me, snapping at my heels
Now I can fly! Now it is so easy!
I just let go of all my troubles and
Let the dear angels come to my aid
They have allowed me to
Unfurl my wings and fly
Up into that glorious sky
Up where I feel so much closer
To my dearest Lord and Saviour
My Father in heaven
I love you so!

Wendy

Wendy was my best friend at high school
We visited each other’s homes
I met her dad Lloyd and mum …
She had three older siblings
Two sisters and a brother
We used to spend our weekends
At my house in Kingston-on-Murray
Or hers in Loxton North
My dad was always full of fun
He always called her Windy
She didn’t mind! She was cool!
Together we tweezed our eyebrows
We shaved our legs; did each other’s hair
We did homework together
We both joined the Library Committee
We both were in the same classes
Until Wendy did the typing course!
We got married and met up now and then
Showing off our kids to each other
We still keep in touch
Though many years have passed
She’ll always be my best friend Wendy!

Watermelon

My cousin was eating at his brother’s place
There was watermelon for dessert
His 8 year old niece asked him “Uncle George,
Do you have watermelon at home?”
He answered: “Yes, I do!”
She retorted “Then why are you eating ours?”
The things that come out of little children’s minds!

The execution

One long day
One long night
One last say
One last light

My Little Super Heroes

When Michael was a little boy
He wanted to be a hero
Saving us from the bad guys
He would practice his Ninja kicks
He would practice his Ninja art
He would dress all in black and
Disappear into the night.

I remember watching Shintaro
When I was young
He was a hero to me
Saving people from the evil Ninja
Throwing his star shaped blades
Using his magnificent katana
To wipe out his enemies
With his friend Tombei the Mist.

We had Wonder Woman
Tarzan, Superman and the Flash
The Green Lantern and
Batman and Robin
Ah those were the days
Back in the 1960’s!

Today we have Naruto
And his mates studying the arts
We have Avatar and Power Rangers
We have Spiderman and Iron Man
Superman and the Avengers
We have Thor and so many others
Al fighting for justice and peace

My grandsons are also full of heroics
Santiago loves being Ben Ten
While for Zecarias it is Iron Man
The heroes may have changed
But little boys have not!

1960's Comic Books

Back in the 1960’s we never had electronic games
No computers, no I-phones, no game boys
We played outside in the summer sun
We made forts and played chasey
We went exploring the local area
I had my almond tree; my space
We had no time to sit on our bums
We were so much more active
Walking was the general mode of transport
You rode a bike if you were lucky enough
The only things we had to spend money on
Were comic books of our heroes!
I remember Little Dot and her escapades
Especially the story with a tiny big -eyed creature
She fell in love with and took home!
She was always getting up to something fun
I still recall one where the fruiterer offered her
A free handful of cherries from his stall
She didn’t want to take some herself
Pretending to be shy; but really she
Was a little smartie
She knew she’d get more if he
Gave her a man-sized handful!
Baby Huey was another character!
His never-ending appetite caused
So many problems for his parents!
Then of course there were the Archie Comics
Betty and Veronica, Jughead and Reggie
I remember wondering why they called Veronica
By her nick name of Ronnie
To me she should have been called Connie!
It is only now that I realise I read it wrong
In my head she was Vericona
Oops I got that wrong; that’s for sure!
With Comic books we helped
To teach our parents to read
They were always reading them with us!
What a precious memory!

Prayer for Santiago

My dear little Santiago is 5 years old
He's a big boy now; but he's been so sick
Picked up some germ at school
Now he's been sick for 5 days
Please pray for my little darling
He's had Gastro; he's been vomiting
He's losing weight; doesn't feel like eating
It's been so hot here; over 40 degrees C
Too hot to do much! Too hot to move!
My poor little darling needs some prayers
Please pray for my dear little grandson!
Dear Lord; please send your dear angels
To help my little boy; your dear little son
Lord please hear a loving Nana's prayer
And make him well again!

Bloody Hackers

You’ve got nothing better to do than
Cause so much trouble!
Hacking into someone else’s account
Wish someone was there
Right next to you; who could
Maybe burst your bloody bubble!
Give you a run for your money honey
Give you a little grief
Then maybe you’d understand
The mess you cause and
Give us some blessed relief!

An eye for detail

My dearest daughter has always had
An eye for detail; ever since she was little
She has amazed me with her drawings
With her talent for art; for the intricacies
Of everything she undertakes!
Plasticine was just one of her mediums
Vanessa made wonderfully detailed
Portraits of Mickey and Minnie Mouse
A water scene; a car driving over a bridge
The fisherman sitting on the edge
The ducks swimming in the water
Even the lines running down
The centre of the road
Another undertaking was of a little chapel
People sitting on hand made peg seats
The priest with his cassock
All the people in the church
A mother with her baby and everyone
Wearing scarves to keep them warm
As the cotton wool snow covered all around
The little pine trees snow covered as well!
The roof was removable; cardboard over pegs
White snow all over the roof
The whole Christmas scene so enchanting!
I made all her Barbies clothing from bits and pieces
Until she decided to design the clothes herself
Vanessa had her own little exhibition
Of elegant Barbies; their hair twirled in plaits
So beautifully done, their clothes majestic
Crinolines and shawls of peacock hues
All her dolls took part; photographed
And displayed in the State capital
Then she made dream catchers
And later jewellery; bought from op-shops
All remade to her tastes!
My daughter I am so proud of you!

Great minds think alike

Great minds think alike
We all brought coleslaw
Last month it was pasta salad
Before that potato salad
Another night everyone made Curry
I guess we must have
Gotten ready in a hurry
But never mind; its the thought
That counts!
The contribution to the conversation
The elocution's not important
What is? The getting together
The laughter and the smiles
These make it all worth the miles
To get to the destination
To get to the meeting place
Just to catch up and see
That everyone is glad to see
The others and we are all at ease!

Come together to Praise Him

Praising my Lord in singing hymns
Listening to blessed prayers
Listening to sermons about Him
His precious love abounds in praising Him
My Lord who loves us all; His children!
My Lord who forgives us all; His lambs!
My lord who gave all for His children!

I wait upon my Lord

I wait upon my dearest Lord
Every day and every night
I wait for His messengers
To bring His words into my heart
I am here to spread His Love
I am here to spread His might
There is no time like the present
To listen to His precious words
They come straight from
His precious loving heart!

A man hears what he wants to hear

"A man hears what he wants to hear
and disregards the rest"
Paul Simon

What a shame when we will not listen
What a shame when we will not hear
The words may wash over us like
Spilling water from a waterfall
But if we do not take it in?
If we do not want to hear and
Allow it all to just slide away
How sorry a poor soul we will remain
When the gift of words from our saviour
Just fall through our hands like sand
And wash down the drain!

Sinner to Saint

When Saul became Paul
He went from sinner to saint
He worked hard to bring destruction
To the early Christian church but
After Jesus appeared to him
He worked to spread the word
What a miracle our dear Lord showed
After turning this man's life
From vehement hatred
To undying love!

Fishers of men

When Jesus walked this earth
His faithful disciples became
Fishers of men!
They went about teaching
The Gospel of Jesus Christ
They were full of love and power
Jesus came to save
Jesus came to bring righteousness
Jesus came to save us; sinners
He was our sacrifice
So that we could be free of sin
A fisherman casts his net
Upon the waters for fish
Jesus' disciples cast their net for men
For people who wanted and needed
To find their saviour
Today it is the same
We need to be fishers of men!
We need to show how much
Jesus still loves us!

The Lagoon

My best friend Martha lived by a lagoon
We'd often walk down to play there
Along that murky shore
The soil was black and gooey
The trees were old and mostly dead
Too much water killed them all
Rotted their poor roots
The pump-house was down there
Her dad had to go down to start her up
That's how they watered
Their vines and orange trees
That's how they did it all!
We'd walk down that steep road

Slowly walked up again
There was a huge rubbish dump
Full of lots of exiting stuff
Old shoes and pots and pans
Years of rubbish piled up to explore
Showing how other people lived
Many long years ago!

When Booboo ran away

Booboo was my young niece
She was special to her dad
She'd been born by caesarean
Because she gestated outside
Of the her mother's womb
She'd been attached to her mum's liver
Or something similarly strange
It was a blessing she survived
It could have gone either way!
Now Booboo was a strong-minded girl
Loving the favour of her dear dad
She went with him everywhere
Even came to our wedding from Darwin
Aged just two years old!
One day she'd had enough
Decided to run away
She packed her bag
(With ten pairs of clean underpants)
Grabbed her little sister's hand and
Walked right out that door!
She was only 6 or 7 at the time
Rachel was maybe 4 or 5 but
Determined to leave her home!
They walked all the way to Nana's home
From Jenkins Avenue in Rostrevor
Down Reid Avenue all the way
To Athol Avenue in Tranmere!
Quite a long walk for two little girls
She told Nana "Dad will tell you later!"
Like she'd just been dropped off
So Nana didn't call him up
Thinking he would explain later on!
We were visiting Nana that day as well
We spent lots of time having fun
Playing games and biding time
Till daddy said he would come!
Now Richard and Celia were going mad
Looking everywhere they could think
They'd just about given up hope
Were about to call the cops
Just going to drop in and tell Nana the bad news
Didn't want to trouble her
Knew how much she worried all the time!
With tears in their eyes they came to the door
Ready to admit defeat!
Sam and Leesa and Marky too
All crying and making a fuss
What a huge surprise to find them there
Oblivious to all their pain!
Thank you Lord for keeping them safe
As they made their way along those streets
All those many years ago!

In Five year's time

I met some lovely people in Adelaide
I cannot tell a lie!
There was one who was special
But he was going out with another girl
I had a chance to double date
Even though I didn't like the other guy
I just wanted to be near him
Just wanted to dream a little
See his smiling face; you know!
Live in fantasy land for a little while!
So I accepted the date with his mate
We went to a concert in the city
Can't remember who we saw
Except I know I wasn't a very good date!
I saw him a few more times
Tried to avoid the mate
Promised to meet in 5 years time
If things didn't work out
But you know how the story goes
Time passes; words mean nothing
It's what's in front of your face that counts
Memories are short when desperation rules!

The Findon Hotel

I lived across the road from the Findon Hotel
Did my best to fit in with the crowds
In the big city of Adelaide back in 1977
I was the little timid country mouse;
Come to the big city to make my fortune!
Well actually to get an education at Uni!
I caught the bus every day to get to the city
Worked hard to make ends meet
Though it was with difficulty!
On the weekends I had some fun
Going to the disco at the Findon Hotel!
I loved to dance; couldn't wait for the guys
Got up with some girl friends instead
Yes we had fun! We painted the town red!
Way back then in the 1970's!
