The ferry across the River Murray
Was the only was to get to Barmera!
Sometimes we had to wait for hours
Many a long time during summertime
When everyone wanted to get across!
One day our old Ford Custom Line
Wouldn't start!
So we all had to give it a push!
Being a silly little girl
I forgot to let go when it started and
I was dragged down the slope
And onto the Ferry!
My knees were scraped
Many tears were shed
But I was much happier
When we got to Lake Bonney!
We went swimming there
Every summer!
At first the water stung my knees
I cried and complained a lot
But finally I just got on with swimming!
