Kaiser loved to run on the beach chasing
The seagull till they flew out of reach
It was such a pleasure to watch him
As he ran back and forth
Uncaring of the wind and sun
All he wanted was to have his fun
In winter time I begged him
Not to run into that water but
He just chased those gulls
Never thinking of going
Where he ought not to!
He always came running back
Happy to show his joy
Breath panting; tongue lolling
Eyes glowing in the sun!
One day as he was running to me
I saw two bull terriers give chase
He'd gone up to say hello but
The male was jealous of my boy!
He attacked my beautiful Kaiser
As he got near me I was so dismayed
That mean old bull terrier
Had my poor Kaiser by the neck
We tried to pull him off my boy
Their owner called them too!
But that dog would not let go
Though we both pulled and tugged!
Finally there was release
I heard my Kaiser yelp in pain
I was just so thankful
That he was free again!
The bull terrier's owner apologised
For the stress they'd caused
I thanked God my Kaiser was saved
From that awful bull terrier's jaws!
I also thank my dear Lord
For Kaiser's beautiful fluffy throat
For those nasty teeth only just
Went through his skin and
Saved my precious boy from death
He did get an infection
Antibiotics cleared that up
So he was ready willing and able
To go running again soon enough!
