True blue

Dear John I miss your smiles
I miss your funny way with words
You were a true Aussie larrikin
You told me so many of your tales
You had a funny way of talking
Like struth and blimey and crikey too
So much other Aussie lingo
Could have filled a book or two
No maybe's!
You'd been to war many years ago
Survived that sorry time
Told of Opal mining and being shot
Over there at Coober Pedy
A lady wrote about your life
The Right Honourable Lady Margaret
Called her book "Through a blind eye"
One day I'd like to read it!
