What have I got to live for?

After my dad's brain injury and stroke
He felt very frustrated with himself
He was depressed because of his life
"What have I got to live for?" he asked in anger
 He couldn't see properly
As his optic nerve had been damaged
He had a massive hole in his vision!
He was supposed to wear a helmet
At all times to protect his brain!
He refused to wear this as he hated it!
After a while the bone started to stink
It wasn't growing back as it should
I told him he needed to go to the doctors
For a check up! Thank God he agreed!
The piece of bone they took out originally
Was not grafting back to the rest of his skull
It was putrid and needed to be removed for good
He brought home his bright blue helmet
But it was never worn!
He grew his hair and let that be his covering
We made sure the kids were always careful
They knew Grandpa had a sore on his head
Vanessa and Shelley were always careful
When Michael was born Grandpa was
The first to make him laugh out loud as he held him
I was overjoyed to see my dad with my son
Enjoying each other's smiles and laughter!
