A walk in Scott Conservation Park

A walk in Scott Conservation Park
Enjoyed the beautiful Australian Bush
A peaceful place to walk: at leisure
Listening to birds serenading: pleasure
Met an Echidna beneath the trees
Didn't want to meet us: suffice to say
Heard sweet buzzing of native bees
Watched them entering their tree hive
Rosellas, green lorikeets, tiny wrens
Flying between dappled Eucalypts
Amazing ochre colours in the creek
A pleasure it was our peace to seek
Heard Kangaroos making a quick exit
Through the untouched native trees
Intermittent sunlight shining through
The shadows along our walking path
Who had been here before we came?
Obviously seen; horses hoof prints
Footprints of others; naturally keen
Snakes, lizards; kangaroos had been
Strolling along among the greenery
Blackened stumps from bushfires
Burnt low to the ground all around
Dead branches left to lie
Where they had fallen by and by
Mosses; lichens on the southern sides
Prickly bushes, mistletoe, strangler vines
Pretty pink flowers of the coral gums
Laying bright upon the ghostly bark
We upset a couple of loud Galahs
Guarding their precious nest above
Fresh air we breathed into our lungs
Memories we made to fill our minds
As we climbed down into creek beds
Boughs strewn all along the ground
Dry leaves; branches 'neath our feet
Crackling as we lifted our walking shoes
What a beautiful treasure found here
Available to bush walkers all through the year
