A lion called Christian

They found him in Harrods Emporium
Locked up in a tiny cage: so strange
That was way back in 1969: two young men
Australians living in London at that time
Rescued that poor little lion cub...
Took him home to their flat: imagine that
A lion cub playing around in a tiny flat
It was obvious that it would not work
So they asked and were given permission
By the local parish priest: for a while at least
It was such a joy from them to play
To run around in the grounds those days
Soon of course Christian grew too large
He was a lion after all; needed to answer
Nature's call, needed so much more
Than they could ever hope to give
He needed to be free in the wild again
So that is what they did: hatched a plan
They took him to Africa, back to his home
Knowing he would need much space to roam
All was well until they decided they had to see
Just how Christian was doing: obviously
Although they were warned that he was wild
They had to visit: had to see their little "child"
They went to Africa to see their grown boy
Never expecting much to really come of it
But, to their amazement: to their joy
Christian remembered them: his early family
His play mates: his freedom: his release
He bounded up to those saviours of his
Gave then great hugs: gave then both a kiss
They played together as if time had not passed
He even introduced them to his new wives...and family
Ah what a reunion: ah what a blast
It was like they had never even been apart
George Adamson enjoyed seeing them
All together: just like a loving family reunited
Time stood still that day: love remembered
Yes it was such a miracle to see love requited

Ace Bourke and John Rendall
Paid 250 Guineas for "Marcus"
Renamed him Christian and the rest is history...
