No need for words

One day I was singing a sad refrain...
To my grand daughter 'twas very plain
She was brought down so very low
Like she understood, without words, you know
It was like she felt the depth of my despair
Simply by listening to that sad, troubled air
Little children understand so very much...
By a simple tone, a gentle, loving touch...
Words need not even enter in
The melody was beautiful and as such
Our connection was sublime, within
She felt my melancholy, felt my soul touch
Upon my wordless suffering
Ah Lord if only we could become like her, like him
Our Lord who took up all of our terrible sins
