Trapped in a well

The farmer lost his donkey
It had slipped and sadly fell
Yes it was trapped deep down
Right at the bottom of the well
Though he sought to aid it
Though he sought to free it
There was no way he was
Going to be able to lift it out...
He knew the well was empty
Dry as a bone: useless to him...
So he asked his neighbours
To come and aid him: fill it in
The poor donkey was there: stranded
Could not climb out of that pit
So they thought to bury him: cover it
As they started shovelling the dirt
They noticed something very strange
The donkey: before distressed: was changed
Instead of screaming out in fear and pain
That donkey remained still and calm
As each shovel of dirt descended
The donkey shrugged and twisted round
Stepped on top of that growing pile
Slowly it was climbing up: making ground
As the men continued slinging in the dirt
The donkey simply kept on
Doing the same thing over and over again
At last the ordeal was over
The well was almost covered in
And that poor old donkey
Was slowly climbing out...

The moral of this story
If you care to think on it
Tells us something very important
About these simple lives we lead...
People might keep on throwing
Pile upon pile of  dirt upon your head
But if you consistently shrug it off
And then step right on top of it
You will end up saving yourself
You will end up stepping out
From underneath the dirt and mess
And end up being a better person
Untroubled by the thoughts of others
Unhurt by life's troubles: might confess
Allow the petty words of others
To fall upon the stony ground
Lifted up: no longer tortured
By empty words from nasty lips
