Grandpa's shorts

The heat of that 70's summer
Two weeks of unending heat; no respite!
My grandpa said "it's not so hot!
I've still got my long john's on!"
The days went by without a breeze
The heat was fierce; as a beast!
The summer nights though cooler 
Were stifling; still; unrelenting!
By the second week
Poor grandpa was sagging
His energy was flagging
Finally; he was ready to admit
It was too hot! He collapsed!
There was nothing to be done for it
He accepted a pair of shorts
Th e long john's were tossed aside
His spindly little white legs
Were seen by all
As he surrendered to that 70's heat wave
In that summer time 
He spent here in Australia!
