The hawk and the dove

The timid dove arises
She soars into the skies
Upward and ever upward
She must wing to stay alive
If she is to escape the watching hawk
She cannot ever falter: cannot look down
She must stay above him: must rise and rise
The hawk will seek his advantage
Must fly above her to win
But though it tries this tactic
The tiny dove can still escape his wings
Satan swoops down upon us
Just like that cruel pursuing hawk
But if we look ever upward
If we continue to seek our Christ
If we diligently look ever upwards
Satan cannot take us down
So "falter not my precious doves"
These words dear Jesus cries
"Keep looking ever upward
Keep me in your sights: lift up your eyes!
I will not let the evil hawk's talons
Clutch at your feathered breast
Ever will you be safe here
In my arms: your precious blessed nest!"
