This old house is our home

Been living here in Sedan for nearly 26 years
Seen many a sight to give me tears
Watched my children growing up
Watched my daughters attending school
Then watched them moving out
Watched as storms have come and gone
Cleaned up the mess left by trial and error
Had a few moments of fear and terror
Cleaned up after catastrophes of nature's fury
Floods and dust storms to name a few
Strong gusty winds that raised the roof
A little fire that scared me to be sure
Even heard some tales of evil under this roof
Of people being flung off of the steep gables
Of broken legs and many other strange things
I met an old lady: born right here in this home
She told of her parent's life in years gone by
Heard of its sale and change of hands
That's what it's been like in these dry dusty lands
But throughout all of these years
I have heard laughter and tears
We have had our good times and our bad
Seen fights and anger rear its ugly head
Heard the shrieks of children's games
Heard the creaks and groans of old timbers
Seen the difference a few years can make
From darkest candle light to bright electricity
The old wood stove; new rain water tanks
How wonderful to have seen all of these changes!
This house has seen one hundred years
It has not just been a house for my family
We have settled into it's massive rooms
Made it our family home and loved it
Throughout all of these years
It has been loved and treasured!
My dear Lord Jesus and his angels
Have been welcome guests
Along with many of the human and animal kind
Visiting us over the past 26 years!
