The Aurelia

My mum and dad escaped from Hungary
During the revolution against the Russians
In 1956 there was a major uprising
Many complaints were aired those days
So many not happy with their rule
Wanted control of their country back again
So they'd left it all to travel abroad
Across the mighty turbulent seas
The Aurelia was an Italian ship
Seven stories of cabins, 140 metres long
It seemed so huge to my dad until
The Iberia came along side: then they saw
It was only a little ship among them all
But it did get them where they had to go
Dad remembers being well looked after
By the Red Cross as they sailed the seas
Being very well fed as they sailed along
MY brother Alec was a real little sailor
He loved being on board that sailing ship
No matter the crashing waves or rocking
He just took everything in his stride
And carried on being the little boy he was!
