Loss of life

There was a funeral today
Many people came
To honour a man's life
To share the grief of loss
What a terrible shame
To lose a member of your family
What a terrible shame to mourn
For such a young family man!
The streets were crowded
With many people as they walked
Around the corner from the church
Following that darkened hearse
Fare welling their workmate
Fare welling their young son
Their brother, cousin, father, mate
Sadness and loss in everyone's hearts
To see one of their own lost
To see one of their own laid to rest
Into that dark grave: forever asleep
Until Jesus comes again!
