The Letter

Ever felt like you just couldn't say
What you wanted to: found it difficult
To get those words out right
Always seemed to be out-gunned
Never seemed to be able to think
Words always came to your lips too late
Felt tongue tied: felt useless in a debate
Always got home by the time those words
Seemed to finally congregate: too late!
We wrote a long hard letter
Got all those words down onto that page
That letter: said our piece and felt glad
That you'd finally got to have your say
Only to have that letter come on back
Torn into tiny little shreds: in a bigger envelope!
I guess it worked because somehow
It got a reaction: finally it got through!
Made us feel better at long, long last!
To know that our words had been heard!
