To thine own self be true

All through my long and sometimes lonely life
Wandering along that twisted, slippery way
I have always felt the need to understand...
How it is that people get so lost: I must say: must ask?
What do we cling to as we wander long and lost?
What messages do we send to our inner selves?
And at what cost? How do we manage to survive?
How do we get through without some terrible cost?
"To thine own self be true" comes to mind: in these words I find
A connection: a sprinkling of honesty and feeling...
Do these words settle in subconsciously and do we find
That we make excuses for our silly thoughts and acts
Do we muddle through believing in something intangible?
Do we seek for enlightenment but cannot actually know
What it is we are looking for...what is is that we actually miss?
So many times I felt that basic need for fulfilment
That we all feel at some stage in our lives...
That need to fit in somewhere; with some group
That need to find a place to belong: to be accepted
To be at home somewhere: at peace within ourselves
IF you believe in something you must accept it into your life
You must do what is right and follow through...
You cannot just wander along aimlessly without a clue...
So I say again: do what you believe to be right
Believe in your self and "To thine own self be true"
