Shelley and the elephant

Many years ago at Dubbo's Western plains Zoo
We met with my friend Martha and her family too!
We enjoyed driving around; checking out the maps
Listening to the monkeys; feeding the black swans
Having a lots of fun and a lovely picnic too!
Shelley wore her Little Mermaid dress and
Nicole wore hers as well; if I do recall!
Vanessa and Melissa played together
Everywhere we went; such a beautiful day was spent
I loved seeing the tiger swimming in the cool
We could have done with a swim; it was hot for us too!
We finally drove around and found the elephants
They were hungry; waiting for their food
Some were up close to the fence; trying to pull out the grass
We watched them twisting their trunks like acrobats
Reaching under the electric fences
Doing their very best to reach those stems
We didn't even realise that Shelley had moved off
Until we looked around to see her; holding up some grass
Helping those elephants to end their fast
One elephant was reaching over the very tall fence
To take the grass that was being offered by my little girl
And in a panic Tim rushed over to aid our little Shell
Together they held up that grass for that trunk to grab
Little thinking that it was a dangerous thing to do!
What a precious memory from Dubbo
Al those many years ago!
