Three daughters

Martha and I were like sisters
Only three girls among the group
We Hungarians stuck together
We had to; there was no-one else!
All the families had boys
Only Elizabeth was younger
By a couple of years
We couldn't count Mary Anne
She'd died with her mum
A car accident took their lives
At the soccer matches we played together
Our dads were all in the same team
Either for Loxton North or Barmera-Monash
We enjoyed tagging along
To all the games; cheering them on!
Those days were like picnics
Our mums would cook up a storm!

We would all go to the lake
After working together in summer
We'd cut the apricots
Work hard all day
Then play together at Lake Bonney
I still remember when Michael B
Jumped into the lake where
It was too shallow
He broke his leg in two places
He screamed out loud
But we thought he was
Just playing around; like he always did!
But not this time; he was in pain!

I loved going to the Barmera Hotel Beer garden
All our families went on Saturday nights
All us kids played hide and seek
Among the beautiful gardens
The lights shining down upon us
The summer nights so warm
A pleasure to be alive in the 1960's
