Five senses

Five senses we are given
Five senses to discern
Everything that God has given
Everything we are to learn

Five senses are a blessing
Five senses not to be spurned
God speaks to us through them
But sometimes we just will not learn

In these busy lives of ours
Can we look...but not really see?
Are there no tears in our eyes?
For the blessed love that He has given thee?

In these crazy times of ours
Can we listen...but not actually hear?
Are we deaf to God's commands?
Are we deafened by life's cacophony?

In these opulent lives and times
Can we eat...but not really taste?
So much food is thrown out: a waste!
Have we forgotten how to share?

In these insular lives we lead?
Can we touch...but do not feel?
Are we becoming immune to life?
So we cannot see another bleed?

In these dangerous times in which we live?
Can we smell...but lose our scents
Do we ignore our blessed talents?
Forgetting to use our God given instincts?

Five senses we are given
Five senses to discern
Everything God has given
Everything we are to learn

Five senses are our blessings
Five senses we have spurned
We must ask God for forgiveness
To His loving arms we must return!
