On top of Mount Lofty

On top of Mount Lofty
We walked along the trail
Seeking our leisure...
Seeking out our grail
Such a blessed Sabbath day
To be out in the sunshine
Enjoying friends and fresh air
As we talked about our day
The trees, brightly clad
Autumn colours everywhere
Our lungs filling up with...
That crisp mountain air
Though the sun was shining
There was little heat about
Families with children...
Running, screaming out
Feeding ducks upon the water
Swans gracefully afloat
Water birds and crows too
Telling us of their delight
Hills echoing our laughter
As we photographed the sights
It was such a pleasure
To take in those pleasant heights...
We headed up a steep hill
It was a difficult climb
But at the top we rested
For we were all puffed out
We descended as we had intended
Around the other side of the lake
Finding bright red mushrooms
Huge deep brown ones as well
But Eben thought the orange was
The best he had ever seen to tell
By the time we returned to the car park
My feet were aching I'm telling you
Those shoes I'd worn to church
Were certainly not hiking boots...
But the most precious thing about it
Was the pleasure we all had
Breathing fresh air and exercising
As we talked and walked about...
