Teach your children well: Stranger danger

Watched a social experiment
A guy with his beautiful dog
Asks parents to consider
"Stranger danger" for their child...
Mum or dad sitting upon the bench
Watching their children play
Thinking everyone is protected...
Thinking everyone is safe...
Thinking everything is all right...
After all it is broad daylight...
Along comes a stranger...
Asks the age old question...
"What will your children do?
If I offer my affection; that of my dog..."
Will you let me test their reaction?
Will you let me approach your child?
You've taught them "Stranger danger"
You've explained it all before...
How about we see what will happen?
When I offer to take them to visit
All her puppies...just up the road...

Each parent was startled...upset, terrified
As their precious little children were delivered
Up into that stranger's friendly gaze...
They watched as their beautiful children
Went walking up the street...away from them
Toward the proffered temptation...
Toward danger unspecified...

Can we ever tread too lightly?
Can we ever truly do enough?
To keep our children safe from danger?
To keep them safe and sound...
For anyone can approach them...
Anyone can offer up some simple bribe...
How can we keep them safe?
How can we keep our precious children
Alive...

Years ago we were travelling home
From a long trip to Sydney...
We, parents, were both so tired...
We parked in a pretty park...
Rested...just for a little while...
Shelley was asleep in her car seat...
We both fell into an exhausted doze...
Vanessa was restless...over 6 years old
She wandered around outside the car
We never even realised the danger...
Until she came running back to ask
"Could she go and visit the puppies?
The man said she could pat them too..."
Dalmatian puppies...just like their mum
She was such a good girl...
She had to ask her mum and dad
Before she went off to visit them
Knowing mummy would want to come along
Knowing mummy loved puppies too...

I thank God for taking care of us
On that long drive home from Sydney
All those many years ago...
How could any mother bear the pain?
Of losing her precious little child...
Thinking about God's blessed love
On this wonderful Mother's Day...
