I used to collect 50 cent pieces
Until need came & I spent them!
I found it so interesting to see
What designs they'd come up with
We had many with Charles & Diana
The Bicentennial, too many to think of really
The Queen's Jubilee, Commonwealth games
Captain Cook too! Just to name a few!
My dad used to have a box full of
Those original round silver 50 cent pieces
Many people kept them close because
They'd made an error at the Australian mint
Too much silver went into those special coins
They were worth more than their face value
He had hundreds of those coins saved up
Until he had to use them all: took them to the pub
Pissed them up against the wall: what a waste!
