A child is born

After so many long months of waiting
Between the days and nights, the body fighting
The tiredness and excitement grows until
The time does stretch and flow and finally slow
It becomes so emotionally draining
The waiting game is that for sure: unending!
The bump it grows and grows and movement shows
That inner life is quickening as time expands
And so does the mother's waistline!
Two heartbeats pound as close as one
The tension grows astounding
And finally that time draws near
When night is long and comfort lost
As pillows help to ease the pain
The muscles stretch and stretch again
The life within like seedling sprouts
Exhilarating joy and fear as one
All emotions swirl and tumble round
Then falling off the makeshift cliff: descending!
The roller coaster ride, so up and down
Now up, now down, then up again!
Never-ending!
Abruptly sounds the warning bell!
As time has come, the tale to tell
What happens now as dawn arrives?
The new arrival shows his signs
And traffic halts and has to wait
The signals accelerate then stop!
Finally the commotion comes
The story halts to catch a breath!
After so much strife and pain
The roller coaster meets the train
The little caboose exits and pulls the chain
And finally all is calm again!
As mother comes to rights
The baby comes and takes that breath
All is right within the world
Peace is come to rule again
And all is quiet and life slows down
And settles into joyful strains
The birds and bees serenading!
