Winter morning in Sedan 1/6/11

The alarm went off at six thirty
The sun was still in bed
There were noises to be heard
As the household tried to wake
The hot water running
The heater blowing warming air
And the teenager was dreaming
As I stepped upon the stair
I softly called his name
As he mumbled in his sleep
His alarm was useless
As he hadn't heard a beep!

So mum gets up each morning
When darkness rules the earth
And slowly gets a moving
As she stirs the cold grey hearth
The ashes are now glowing
The fire slowly comes to life
Such is the daily grind
Of mother and wife!

Outside the sun slowly rises
To declare its reign again
The frozen water on the bucket
Still feels the cold night's chill
And as the sun creeps higher
Its softly falling rays
Defrost the frozen grasses
As it penetrates Winter's icy grasp!

Then along the now dustless road
As we meet the bus anon
The most beautiful vision
Meets my eyes right there and then
There is mist upon the water
Of that old railway dam
And it draws my eyes to witness
That day is born again!

How precious a moment
To keep in memory's sweet files
The suns rays gently probing
Between the shaded trees
The cold eerie mists
As they rise up like steam
From that old railway dam
That is filled up once again!
