The secret life of trees

How do you explain to an almost four year old?
How do you express the point you need?
How to help him understand the things?
That shows him all about the life of trees!
He's got a taste for almonds now
He wants to go there every time he's here
He wants to climb and see his tree!
Climbing up onto those lofty boughs
That really lets him see so far
(All of two feet off the ground!)
He wants to be so grown up now
He wants to understand
But really he's just that little child
Who has so much more to learn!
When the tree was bare in winter time
I told him the tree was fast asleep
That it needed to have a long, long rest
Before it woke up and then got dressed!
Then as it blossomed into the spring
The flowers there from those tiny buds
Would burst and fill the air with scent
But he only wanted to know
When the almonds would be there?
He only wanted to be with me
To help me gather those yummy almonds
Ready to be cracked!
There were no almonds there this year
The season was not as benevolent!
And last years massive crop was spent!
I tried to explain this new predicament!
He said this was the fourth year
And couldn't we just make it number five?
Couldn't we just pass right on?
And change the number on the dial of time?
To make those yummy almonds
Come again right now?
How do you explain to an almost four year old?
How do you tell about?
The secret life of trees!
