After midnight

A massive storm passed overhead
There was heavy downpour; thunder; lightning; dread
The skies poured out their desperate tears
Heavens trembled and man; he just covered his ears
After the passage of this mighty storm
All was still; as is the norm!
No starry, starry night tonight!
It's black as pitch and twice as quiet!
Nothing moves at all; now storm has passed
Reflections from the puddled roads
Shiny leaves and dark tree bark
Colours deepened by the night
So much muddy water lies about
Now in quiet pools; no moonlight!
Only my car's headlights show where it's been
As in the lightning's brightness all is seen
Every leaf and twig and branch
Is coloured in this stark and white
Myriad reflections return my beams
As everything sparkles in relief
No; nothing moves; no birds in flight
All creatures huddled close in their fright!
