Wicker and wool

There was a double funeral last year
For our dear friends Peter and Celia
They had died together in a car accident
Gone to God beside each other: as they had lived
The funeral was delayed to accommodate
The coming together of the whole family
The whole church was in mourning
Family came from Germany, from all over
Australia, this wide brown land as well
Being in their 70's they had decided
On the way everything was to be arranged
Should there be the need: yes indeed
Their favourite hymns were chosen
Their favourite Bible quotes too...
Celia's casket was made of wool
A natural fibre, simple in its design
As beautiful as she was in life: it carried her
Enclosed her within its natural fibres
Ready for her journey home...
Peter's casket was of wicker work
Again: simple and natural, yet strong
He was quiet by nature: a poet...
Their children and families told their story
Told of their minimalist lives...
Told of their trials and tribulations
Told of their love for their children
Told of their desire to live a simple life
Growing everything they needed to survive

Rest in peace Celia and Peter
Missing you both so very much
