Boys will be boys

The games that boys play: even to this very day
Building forts; playing at wars: first outside
Then indoors: on their computers & X-boxes
Not so long ago they would get together
Physically making forts with old spare tyres
Taking up a plank of wood into a tree: shouting
"Look at me! Bombs away! Fire at will!"
We built a great fort upon a small rise
Tyres all around it: was that wise?
Yes it held together quite well: I can tell!
It was a great success: lasted well!
They invented new weapons: painful ones
Called glove-guns: shooting pebbles
Dangerous if you got too close: they were bruised
Little round marks all over their bodies
Their aims improved: got better at sudden attacks
Ran around in their gangs: firing those nasty little weapons
Taking stock of their enemies: shouting out with glee
Yes! Boys will be boys even in today's world of make believe!
