Lake Moodie

There's a little lake up the road
Been there to have  a look: not much to see!
It never seems to have any water
I guess that's why they call it Lake Moodie!
Sometimes it's very, very dry: I'll tell you why!
Drought has been the spectre for many a long year
No rain to speak of: no thunderstorms full of rain
Just dry dusty winds: a constant in these parts
Until December in 2010: it really rained then!
In December there was so much rain: like a hurricane
Huge black clouds were amassed along the hills
Coming from every direction: spreading disaffection
Massive clouds gathered all around the place
Bringing rain by the bucket full: all apace
What a mess occurred as rain pelted down anon
The five creeks were overwhelmed with water
All creeks overflowing: no quarter everything washed away
Trees brought down along the creek beds: wombats drowned
Washed down with that tumbling water: destruction let loose
Yes that's what happened back then: I wish Lake Moodie had copped it
But that water never reached her shores: she was bereft
My home & many others felt the brunt: were flooded
Filled with brownish mud: were gutted: what a mess!

That's why my prayers are for Lake Moodie!
Dear Lord if it should come to pass: please save me
Give all that extra water to Lake Moodie!
I'd prefer to see that little lake filled with water!
Just like you know it should: you ought to
Fill her up to the brim: let her have that pleasure
To be called a living lake again!
