Paradise lost

Been driving in the car for hours
Air conditioner blasting all the while
The hot, hot sun is shining down
Upon this beautiful world of ours
I'm cruising home from the city now
Countryside is rushing by!
Trees of every shade of green
So many different types to be seen
Eucalypts, pines and evergreens
Shadowed; shining, glistening!
Saw a poor Koala's greyish claw
Lying in a patch of grass; as I passed
Who saw her when she was alive?
Now she's gone; will she be mourned?
Cars race by without a care
Did anyone even see her as she fell?
Did they pause to think upon her life?
The speed of traffic denies her time
It's all too fast; there is no time!
Everyone is racing; engines roar
But what is happening? What's the score?
Does anybody really care?
About what's happening everywhere
Overseas; so far away
Bombs are dropping; children scream
People dying; bullets fly; death is there
Do those over here even care?
Do they even think about another's fate?
Do they ever even contemplate
The fates of children or their plight?
Do they cry out for justice out of sight?
How many will actually think
Of anyone but their own
Living in their own little niche
Will paradise lost ever be found!
