Powerful storm 26/11/12

A massive storm passed overhead
Thunder rumbled; huge raindrops
Pelted out a staccato rhythm
Upon the old tin roof
Lightning lit up the whole night sky
Clouds obscured the moonlight
Though a few tiny stars tried to get by!
I went outside to experience its power
Up-righted the buckets to catch the rain
The wind had knocked them over: again!
I watched enthralled as the lightning
Created massive diagonal streaks across the sky
The wind was blowing; the clouds billowed
Everywhere was was movement
Nothing was still; it was such a thrill!
Like fire and brimstone; senses alive!
I watched the storm move overhead
Too exciting to sit inside or be in bed
We lit the candles and waited
But no power was restored
Too much damage caused
Towitta's transformer was destroyed
Finally we tried to sleep
But the heat was unbearable
As the stillness settled upon our home
I needed movement; but the fans
Were still; like huge beasts of burden
Their shadows upon the ceiling
The stillness was too complete!
