Grape picking at Vidovic's

Worked hard picking grapes at Vidovic's
Nearly finished now: it hot, hot work to pick
The others race along like stormy winds
We two worked slowly along behind them
Mum and dad, picking too: used to labouring
The flies are a pain to say the least...
Sticky hands covered with dust: annoying
Ah the bliss when it's time for a break
After lunch its back to work; truly soul destroying
At end of day it's good to stop at last
Back's aching: head's full of dirt and dust
Then it's home to rest before night falls
Still got dinner to cook as well
Ah it's just another hell...
And tomorrow is still coming...

I remember the lunches we had back then
Hard boiled eggs; sliced, tomato sauce, tomatoes
In between two bits of bread: simple yet delicious
Every day it was the same: but hey: no dishes
