The Perseids

The Perseids grace our skies
When Earth plows through her fields
A stream of fragments: right before our eyes
Showering meteorites ranging in size
From grains of sand to boulders, true
The tail end of the comet Swift-Tuttle
Returning every 130 years or so...
And at the same time every year
Dozens of meteors per hour...
A veritable meteor shower...
Some exceptionally bright...
Light up August's skies at night
Baseball sized, larger fireballs too
Ripping through the upper atmosphere
Space stones regularly appear
The promise of a superior fireworks show
So look up tonight...
Check out the sights of this
Northern hemisphere sky show
Ah not fair...we here Down Under
Will see it too...
But it simply won't be as bright...
It's true...
