Apricot Kernels

We used to cut and dry our own apricots
Both at Harrington's and out our home
In Kingston-on-Murray South Australia
Those hot summer days were spent
Working hard up in the apricot cutting shed
No air-conditioning: just the breeze: if any
Sweltering days we worked from 8 till 5.30 pm
I remember standing upon those apricot kernels
Lumpy and uncomfortable for our feet
That uneven ground would make our feet ache
So we tried to make them fall into those boxes
Half-case boxes just for the kernels: day after day
At the end of the cutting season: when dry
They would be bagged and sold to the man
He would come with his truck to take them away
Ready to be used to make hand creams
Nothing was wasted: every part was used!
