Drunk and disorderly

He was drunk & disorderly that awful night
Couldn't remember how he'd gotten so lost
Ended up driving along the wrong street
Caught up in that night policeman's beat
Pulled over: breathalysed: way too high
Had to be taken in to the Police station
Held there against his will: silly man he was
Called me up in the middle of the night
Must have been about 2 am: pitch black: freezing cold
Middle of winter: truth to be told!
(Vanessa was a tiny little babe in arms!)
Told me to get a taxi cab: come save him!
Didn't want to be left in that prison cell all night!
The policeman came on afterwards
Said: "Please don't bother yourself & the baby
Let him wallow in his own problem till the morn!
He'll be fine right here in the cells: & maybe
He'll think about ever doing it all over again!"
So I left him there to face the news: he got himself in
Let him think upon his silly mistake: let him stay
Hoping & praying he'd learnt his lesson that night!
