At the pool

It's summer at the swimming pool
The birds are all about: flapping down
Clinging to the edge: having their sips
It's too hot by far: way too dangerous a time
Temperatures over 40 degrees all week
Makes those poor thirsty birds all seek
A little bit of cooling water: just to slake their thirst
They come flying down to watch us swim
They slowly waddle up to the brim: eyeing us
As we splash around in that life-giving water
Thinking to themselves: they ought to let us in!
